Serena Perrone's work blurs the lines between fact and fiction, the experienced and the imagined. It reflects a longing for - and break from - the familiar, home, and both the near and distant past. It involves ideas about solitude, hope, longing, self-reliance, dependence, and metamorphosis. Through imagery that combines painting with woodcut, drawing, silkscreen and intaglio methods, she builds series of works in which different symbolic elements encounter and interact with one another in altered, fictionalized landscapes.
